Where is my mail ? I received mail normally for a while,
but now I do not receive any (and I did not unsubscribe)

The list server is set to remove from the list any e-mail address that presents delivery troubles.

The most frequent cause is that the recipients have a limited incoming mailbox.  Have in mind that even with the relatively small traffic on HEPC List  your mailbox could fill up in just a couple of days. Once this happens, all the other posts that keep coming into your mailbox are returned to the sender. In such case your email addres will be automatically removed from the HEPC List.

If you stop receiving mail for an unreasonable time get in touch with me by clicking this button:

Keep in mind, however, that sometimes the list can be completely quiet for several days.

I do not receive any mail, although I subscribed a few hours ago

Usually e-mails propagate pretty fast, in a matter of seconds. From time to time though, our server may be under maintenance (watch the "Current Server Status" if you think the breakdown is too long)  And sometimes, if your post is routed through slow servers it can take as much as 12 hours...

Keep in mind, however, that sometimes the list can be completely quiet for several days.

I receive multiple copies of each message

This is very annoying, but I can assure you it has nothing  to do with the HEPC list server. There are several possible causes, but the most common ones are:

a) Your mailbox was corrupted at your internet provider's end. Ring their technical support to make sure your mailbox is OK.

b) The most frequent cause, however, is the incorrect setting of the filtering facilities offered by the different mail programs available. Check your filters and make sure that the action you choose is moving or transferring the posts in a folder, and not copying them in a folder (if you keep copying the posts that arrive in your Inbox, there is no wonder they seem to arrive in multiple copies !!!).

The automated subscribing/unsubscribing web pages do not work... What can I do ?

Write to the list-owner as soon as you can:
This way you wil help other potential subscribers as well...

I receive too many posts and it is difficult to read them all

In order to make your life easier it is a good idea to filter your incoming mail into several folders.

Normally all email programs throw your incoming mail in the "In" folder, irrespective of the sender or subject.

To rectify this situation you have first to create a folder for the mail coming from the HEPC list.  You can call it any way you want, but I would suggest  "HEPC List".

Then, in the folder "HEPC List" you need to create two sub-folders:

  • one for the normal list traffic (I would suggest: "HEPC Traffic")

  • one for the INFO posts (I would suggest:  "INFO Posts")

Conventions:

  • whenever I used the word CLICK it means LEFT-CLICK...
It's pretty obvious what we meant by RIGHT-CLICK... <G>

You will find here step by step instructions to set up the folders and filtering rules (including screenshots) for the 3 main e-mail packages on the market (click on the name to go to the appropriate instructions):

Please be patient, these technical support pages contain a large number of screenshots and load rather slow.

There is something I don't like on or about the list
/ I have suggestions for the list

If there is something you do not like (for instance, someone broke the Rules), or if you have any suggestions, please do not send them to the list.

Send all your complaints and/or suggestions to the list-owner instead

The reason is very simple... As you know, people with hepatitis are very moody, and it is very easy to start a flame on the list by making a comment that otherwise would not have any particular significance.  List members prefer to enjoy the list as it is, while the list-owner takes care of all the administrative matters in the background.

I have been away for a while, and now the list disappeared

Sometimes we have to change our server, for technical reasons. When we change servers, the email address for the HEPC List changes too. Your best bet is to bookmark this site on your web browser, and to use the automated subscription facility on this site whenever you want to re-subscribe. When you re-subscribe you will automatically receive a post containing the current email address for the HEPC List.

I unsubscribed, but I still receive mail from the list

This happens in several situations:

  • when you type your email address incorrectly in the text box on the automated page;

  • when you forget what email address you used (if you have multiple email addresses);

  • or when you send the unsubscription request to the wrong list section (you subscribed to the HEPC Digest and sent your request to the main HEPC List, or viceversa)

a) In the first case, just repeat the unsubscribing procedure, taking care to type the correct addres...

b) If you do not remember what email address you used, just open an email you received from the list and look in the headers for the line starting with "Delivered-To" (in the example below the very first line of the post:    Delivered-To: johndoe@vossnet.co.uk), where you will see the address used by the list server to sent you the post. All you have to do then is to unsubscribe that address.

c) In the third case just pay attention to what mail you receive from the list:

- Do you receive separate e-mails several times per day ?
Then you are subscribed to the main HEPC List.

-  Do you receive a single large mail once per day ?
Then you are subscribed to the HEPC Digest.
